Ondo Police Launches POCACOV Initiative To Curb Cultism, Boost Community Safety
The Ondo State Police Command has launched a statewide campaign aimed at tackling cultism and other violent crimes, with a strong focus on prevention and community engagement.
The initiative, known as the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Violent Crimes (POCACOV), was officially unveiled on Thursday, April 30, 2026, by the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, alongside members of the command’s management team.
Speaking at the event, Lawal described POCACOV as a strategic programme introduced by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to address the underlying causes of crime, particularly among young people. He explained that the campaign prioritises advocacy, mentorship, reorientation, and collaboration with key stakeholders to redirect youths away from criminal activities and towards productive ventures.
The police commissioner noted that the rising cases of cultism and violent crime require proactive measures beyond traditional law enforcement. According to him, lasting success will depend on strong partnerships involving community leaders, schools, parents, religious institutions, and other stakeholders.
Lawal reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property while promoting peace and stability across the state. He also urged young people to reject criminal behaviour and embrace legitimate means of livelihood, assuring them of continued police support for positive and empowering initiatives.
The launch featured sensitisation sessions, interactive engagements, and efforts to mobilise community support for the sustainability of the campaign.
The police command called on residents to cooperate with law enforcement authorities and actively participate in the POCACOV initiative, stressing that collective responsibility is crucial to building a safer society.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on behalf of the Ondo State Police Command.
