Crime Plans Thwarted, Communities Safer: IGP Disu’s Intelligence-Led Policing Delivers Major Breakthrough In Delta State

What could have become another tragic chapter of bloodshed and violent crime in Delta State was averted through swift intelligence gathering, coordinated police action, and the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting lives.

In two separate intelligence-driven operations carried out within days of each other, operatives of the Delta State Police Command dealt significant blows to criminal elements by arresting suspected cultists, recovering firearms and live ammunition, and disrupting activities capable of endangering innocent residents.

The successful operations underscore the growing effectiveness of the intelligence-led policing strategy championed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Rilwan Disu, whose emphasis on proactive policing continues to produce tangible security outcomes across the country.

The first breakthrough came in the early hours of July 28, 2026, when the Divisional Police Officer of Abraka received credible anonymous intelligence about the gathering of suspected criminals at Liberty Hotel along Omono Road, Abraka.

Without delay, a combined team of police operatives and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force mobilized to the location.

Their swift intervention led to the arrest of Wale Morakinyo, 27, while several other suspects fled upon sighting the security team.

A search of the suspect’s bag resulted in the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols and four live cartridges, weapons capable of causing devastating harm had they remained in criminal hands.

Investigators have since intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, while the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Asaba, continues its investigation.

Barely twenty-four hours earlier, another major operation had struck at the heart of cultism in the state.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit (SAKU) stormed a suspected criminal hideout near Voke Technical College, Issele-Uku, where they arrested **seven suspected members of the Maphite Confraternity.

The suspects allegedly confessed to their membership of the cult group during preliminary investigations.

Recovered from the operation were a double-barrel gun, seven live cartridges, a cutlass, a Maphite cult beret, and seven Android phones, exhibits that investigators believe could assist in unraveling further criminal activities linked to the group.

For many residents, these recoveries represent far more than statistics.

Every firearm seized is potentially a life saved.

Every cartridge recovered is one less bullet that could have shattered a family.

Every suspected cultist removed from the streets is another step toward restoring peace to communities that have lived under the constant fear of violent rivalries and criminal intimidation.

The coordinated operations reflect the renewed determination of the Nigeria Police Force to stay ahead of criminal networks through intelligence, rapid response, and sustained operational pressure rather than reacting only after crimes have been committed.

Under the leadership of IGP Tunji Rilwan Disu, the Force has continued to prioritize intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and proactive crime prevention, ensuring that criminal plans are disrupted before innocent lives are endangered.

As investigations continue and efforts intensify to apprehend other fleeing suspects and dismantle the wider criminal networks, the message from the Nigeria Police Force remains unmistakable: there will be no safe haven for armed criminals, cult groups, or anyone determined to threaten the peace and security of Nigerian communities.

These successful operations are another testament to the commitment, professionalism, and courage of officers who continue to place themselves in harm’s way so that citizens can sleep in peace. They also reinforce the Inspector-General’s vision of a proactive, intelligence-driven, and people-focused police service committed to making every community safer.
