Joan Laporta Re-Elected As Barcelona President

Joan Laporta has been re-elected as president of FC Barcelona after securing a convincing victory in the club’s presidential election.
Laporta polled just over 68 percent of the votes cast, defeating his challenger, Victor Font, who garnered almost 30 percent. The remaining votes were declared void or invalid.
The 63-year-old will begin his second consecutive term—and fourth overall—as president of the Catalan giants on July 1, according to the club.
Speaking after the announcement of the results, Laporta described the victory as “resounding,” expressing confidence about the club’s future.
“This gives us great strength and makes us unstoppable,” he said. “Exciting years lie ahead. They will be the best of our lives.”
Laporta, who previously served as Barcelona president from 2003 to 2010 and oversaw the appointment of Pep Guardiola as head coach, thanked club members for participating in what he described as a “celebration of democracy and civic spirit.”
He pledged that his administration would continue to defend the club’s interests while strengthening the first team and completing the redevelopment of the Camp Nou.
The election recorded about 48,500 votes, representing a turnout of 42.34 percent. Laporta secured 32,934 votes, while Font received 14,385.
Barcelona have faced major financial challenges in recent years but enjoyed success last season, winning a domestic treble. The club currently sits four points clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.
In their latest league outing, Barcelona defeated Sevilla FC 5–2, with Raphinha scoring a hat-trick.
Attention now shifts to the UEFA Champions League, where Barcelona will face Newcastle United in the second leg of their Round-of-16 tie this week.
The first leg at St James’ Park ended 1-1 after a dramatic 96th-minute penalty from Lamine Yamal rescued a draw for the Spanish side.
