2 min readMozambique’s Sidoane Fiadanantsoaso and Ashley Tinashe of Zimbabwe claimed the silver and bronze medals, respectively, unable to match Amusan’s blistering pace.
The race wasn’t without its share of drama as Amusan faced a potential disqualification after a false-start during the initial attempt to commence the event. However, officials opted to issue her a yellow card instead, allowing her to proceed and ultimately claim the gold medal.
The 26-year-old athlete’s stellar performance in Accra is part of her continued success on the track this season, following her recent achievement of setting a new African women’s indoor record in the 60-meter hurdles in February.
In other events at the African Games, Nigerian athletes excelled on the track as Chidi Okezie secured the gold medal in the men’s 400 meters race, clocking an impressive time of 45.06 seconds. Meanwhile, Joseph Esther clinched the silver medal in the women’s 400 meters race, narrowly missing out on the gold to Mari Moraa of Kenya.
Okezie’s triumph marks a significant improvement from his performance in the 2019 games in Rabat, where he secured a bronze medal.
