Abiodun Under Fire As PDP Condemns 236 Youth Leaders’ Appointments

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned Governor Dapo Abiodun’s appointment of 236 All Progressives Congress (APC) ward youth leaders as “political assistants,” describing the move as a wasteful ploy driven by personal ambition rather than governance.

In a statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Otunba (Arc.) Kayode Adebayo, the PDP alleged that the decision underscores Abiodun’s preference for “playing politics over responsible governance.”

According to the opposition party, the governor’s action represents “a brazen misuse of public funds for selfish political survival,” especially at a time when Ogun residents are grappling with economic hardship, poor infrastructure, neglected workers’ welfare, and underfunded hospitals.

The PDP further accused Abiodun of plotting to use the youth leaders as a “political militia” to secure a 2027 Senate ticket and install a preferred successor. It likened the development to the governor’s alleged deployment of transport unions during the 2023 governorship election and the August 16 Remo Federal Constituency bye-election.

“Instead of relying on performance, the governor is building structures of intimidation. Reports that these youth leaders are being coerced into diabolical oaths of allegiance only confirm the desperation,” the statement read.

The party urged the appointees to reject what it described as “Greek gifts,” insisting that the future of Ogun State must not be mortgaged for crumbs from the APC-led administration.

While clarifying that it is not opposed to meaningful political appointments, the PDP queried why the governor waited six years before recognizing his party’s youth wing. “This is not governance. It is a senseless scheme to unleash terror and manipulate the state for selfish ends,” the statement added.

The PDP concluded by calling on youth groups and the wider public to align with its vision for “a government of service, not a government of waste and fear.”
