Thugs Disrupt Aregbesola’s ADC Rally In Lagos, Security Overwhelmed
Chaos erupted yesterday in Alimosho, Lagos, when suspected political thugs violently disrupted a rally organized by the Lagos chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
The rally, held at Lion Field, was meant to welcome Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Lagos governorship hopeful, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, into the ADC fold. It also served as a voter sensitization drive, urging residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, shortly after proceedings began, hoodlums stormed the venue, unleashing mayhem and scattering participants. Witnesses alleged the attackers were loyalists of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Several attendees sustained injuries while policemen on ground were reportedly overpowered.
As of press time, no arrests had been confirmed by the Lagos State Police Command.
Reacting, Lagos APC Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, dismissed the allegations, accusing the opposition of using the incident to mask its internal divisions.
He urged security agencies to ensure political activities in the state are not hijacked by “political jobbers.”
