Why Meranda’s Security Was Withdrawn And Restored – Lagos Police

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has had her security details restored after their earlier withdrawal sparked tension within the state legislature.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, clarified that the temporary withdrawal was part of an ongoing personnel audit, which had been in progress for several days.

“As I speak with you, the audit of the police personnel attached to Hon. Mojisola Meranda has been completed, and the officers from the Lagos State Police Command have been returned to her for protection,” Jimoh stated on Thursday evening. He emphasized that the exercise was routine and not targeted at any individual.

Meranda, who represents Apapa, assumed the speakership after replacing Mudashiru Obasa, who was accused of impropriety. However, Obasa has since claimed that Meranda resigned as leader of the parliament.

Meanwhile, some lawmakers have criticized the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state over Obasa’s purported return, describing the development as a political charade and an embarrassment that should not be allowed to stand.
