WAEC Withholds 215,267 WASSCE Results Over Malpractice
1 min readThe West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of 215,267 candidates, representing 11.92% of those who took the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), due to examination malpractice.
Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of WAEC’s Nigeria Office, made the announcement during a Monday briefing, highlighting that while malpractice remains a concern, the percentage of withheld results decreased by 4.37% from the previous year.
Despite a ban, mobile phones and organized cheating in some schools were key issues. Dr. Dangut reaffirmed WAEC’s commitment to maintaining examination integrity and warned of strict penalties for those involved.
All reported cases are under investigation, and decisions will be communicated to affected candidates via their schools. A platform is available for candidates to contest these decisions on WAEC’s website.
On a positive note, 73.79% of candidates secured credits in at least five subjects. Successful candidates can access their Digital Certificates 48 hours after checking their results online.
