Tinubu Approves New Nigeria Police Academy Campus In Ogun State

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus for the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State. The President also authorized a ₦15 billion special take-off grant to facilitate the immediate development of the facility.
The approval aligns with the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which mandates the expansion of the academy’s primary base in Wudil, Kano State, into multiple campuses across the federation.
According to a statement on Monday, April 20, 2026, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the intervention funds will be sourced from the 2026 Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) allocation. These funds are earmarked for priority infrastructure, including academic facilities, student hostels, and essential training assets.
The selection of Erinja followed a high-level consultative meeting involving the Minister of Police Affairs, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC). The committee’s recommendation considered the current expansion of the Nigeria Police Force recruitment, student intake capacity, and long-term national security requirements. President Tinubu maintains that this expansion is critical for modernizing policing education and strengthening institutional governance within the force.
