Super Falcons Begin WAFCON Campaign With 3-0 Win Over Tunisia

The Super Falcons of Nigeria began their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, campaign in emphatic fashion with a 3-0 victory over Tunisia on Sunday.
Nigeria got off to a flying start, with Asisat Oshoala heading home Omorinsola Babajide’s superb cross in the fourth minute.
Justine Madugu’s side controlled the tempo of the match throughout, with goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie largely untroubled.
Babajide made it 2-0 with a well-taken strike on the stroke of half-time. Moments later, defender Ashleigh Plumptre had a goal disallowed for a foul in the build-up.
Head coach Madugu introduced Chiwendu Ihezuo, Christy Ucheibe, and Esther Okoronkwo for Oshoala, Abiodun, and Babajide at the start of the second half.
The Super Falcons continued to dominate proceedings, with Plumptre and Osinachi Ohale both coming close to extending the lead.
Substitute Chiwendu Ihezuo sealed the victory with a third goal six minutes from time.
The nine-time African champions will face Botswana in their next group fixture on Wednesday.
