Sagamu LG Moves To Reorganize NTA Plank, Itesiwaju Markets

The Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate, has announced the immediate suspension of the executive committees of the NTA Plank Market (Sawmill) and Itesiwaju International Market, Ogijo, over alleged non-compliance with local government policies and disregard for constituted authority.

Odulate made this known during a working visit to the two markets earlier today, accompanied by members of the Executive Council and Administrative Heads of the Local Government. The visit, he said, was aimed at addressing administrative challenges and ensuring full compliance with the council’s regulations.

While addressing market leaders and traders, Odulate reaffirmed that the Local Government remains the rightful authority over all markets within its jurisdiction, as provided in the Fourth Schedule, Section 1(e) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which vests the establishment, maintenance, and regulation of markets, motor parks, and slaughterhouses in local governments.

He lamented that despite repeated directives, the leadership of both markets had failed to align with the council’s policies, prompting the decision to dissolve the existing executive structures.

“As a result of their continued disregard for Local Government authority, all executive activities of the NTA Plank Market and Itesiwaju International Market, Ogijo, are hereby suspended with immediate effect,” Odulate declared.

The Chairman further disclosed that the council would take full administrative control of both markets while engaging key stakeholders to establish a sustainable framework for market management. According to him, a caretaker committee would soon be inaugurated to oversee the markets until peace, order, and compliance are fully restored.

Odulate reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining proper regulation and promoting peaceful coexistence across all markets under Sagamu Local Government, in line with constitutional provisions and the principles of good governance.
