The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, has conducted an on-the-spot operational assessment of security arrangements along the Lagos–Ore–Benin Expressway, as part of measures to enhance safety and operational efficiency ahead of the festive season.
The assessment, carried out on December 20, 2025, was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, aimed at strengthening policing and inter-agency coordination across commands and formations nationwide.
During the visit, CP Lawal commended the synergy between the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), noting that the strategic deployment of FRSC personnel had significantly improved traffic management and control along the busy corridor. He also praised the Nigeria Customs Service for its contribution to road safety, particularly in the removal of barriers to ensure free flow of traffic for motorists.
The Commissioner of Police further charged members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Ondo State Chapter, to remain law-abiding, exercise patience, and avoid reckless driving. He warned against driving under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants, stressing the dangers such actions pose to lives and property.
While interacting with officers deployed along the expressway, CP Lawal urged them to discharge their duties with professionalism, diligence, and commitment. He issued directives to the Area Commander to deploy additional personnel to the corridor, clear all obstructions, and intensify supervision of officers on duty. Similarly, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in metropolitan areas were instructed to remove all impediments to traffic flow and sustain regular patrols and visible policing along the expressway.
The Ondo State Police Command also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for his strategic leadership and continued support, particularly through reforms and technological initiatives designed to promote effective, responsive, and intelligence-driven policing across the country.
Assuring commuters and residents of their safety, CP Lawal stated that robust security measures have been put in place, with Area Commanders, Tactical Team Commanders, DPOs, and their personnel fully deployed for both covert and overt operations to guarantee the security of road users throughout the yuletide period.
