Ogun: PDP Alleges Dapo Abiodun, OGSIEC’s Plan To Rig November 16 Polls, Warns Against Electoral Fraud
2 min readThe Ogun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised alarm over an alleged plan by Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), and other entities to manipulate the upcoming Local Government elections scheduled for November 16, 2024.
In a press statement issued on October 24, 2024, by Otunba (Arc.) Kayode Adebayo, the Publicity Secretary of the party in Ogun State, the PDP warned against what it described as a scheme to falsify election results in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates across all Local Governments in the state.
The statement expressed concerns over the credibility of OGSIEC, led by Babatunde Osibodu, accusing the commission of planning to announce prearranged results for the APC.
The PDP declared that it is not intimidated by the prospect of losing a free and fair election, having experienced both victory and defeat in the past. However, the party emphasized that it would not tolerate any attempts to undermine the electoral process through rigging or imposition of candidates.
“We will vigorously resist any attempt to rig the election,” the statement read. The party called on OGSIEC-appointed Electoral Officers, security agencies, and the public to reject any offers or pressure to compromise the integrity of the election. It also urged voters to be vigilant and protect their votes through all lawful means.
The PDP further stressed the importance of following the legal processes for vote collation and result declaration as outlined in section 14 of the OGSIEC guidelines.
The party vowed to ensure that results would only be declared at constitutionally recognized centres, adhering strictly to the approved guidelines.
The statement concluded with a call to action for PDP supporters across the 236 wards and 20 Local Government Areas of Ogun State, encouraging them to take their destiny into their own hands by safeguarding the electoral process.
The party promised that the upcoming election would mark a break from past traditions of open electoral fraud and disobedience to democratic rules, ensuring that the popular will of the people would be upheld.
