JUST IN: No Councillorship Primaries In Alimosho As Bisi Yusuf Avoids Home Defeat

The political atmosphere in Alimosho Federal Constituency has taken a dramatic turn following the failure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to commence councillorship primaries in the area. With 36 wards awaiting the democratic selection of candidates, party stakeholders and grassroots members are raising concerns over what they describe as a deliberate attempt to undermine internal democracy.

At the center of the controversy is Honorable Bisi Yusuf, Director General of the Tinubu Mobilization Group for 2027. He is accused of influencing the suspension of primaries by citing vague and unverified security concerns.

Many party loyalists believe the issue has little to do with safety and everything to do with political self-preservation.

“It is a travesty that a man who cannot deliver his home ward, his local council, or his federal constituency is being positioned as Alimosho’s apex leader and expected to deliver Lagos State in 2027,” said Shehu Quadri Alebiosu, a grassroots leader from Ward C in Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA.

Observers say Yusuf has failed to gain meaningful support in his ward, despite reportedly controlling over 200 million naira in mobilization resources. Party insiders claim he has not succeeded in building consensus or securing victory through any form of primary, whether direct or indirect.

They allege that Yusuf is now using manufactured insecurity as an excuse to delay the process and impose his preferred candidates.

Yusuf’s strained relationship with Alimosho’s two major APC caucuses, The Mandate Movement and the Justice Forum, has only worsened the situation. After defecting between the two groups at different times, he now finds himself politically isolated with no solid grassroots backing. His decision to leave the Justice Forum and his refusal to fully integrate into The Mandate Movement have caused friction, suspicion, and growing disunity.

In recent comments, Yusuf accused The Mandate Movement of working against the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Many party members dismiss this as unfounded and ironic, especially given Alimosho’s record-breaking vote count for the APC in the last general election.

“What Yusuf has failed to explain is his own disappearance during the campaign season,” said a party official. “He did not mobilize, he did not fund any efforts, and now he wants to distort the facts.”

The suspension of the primary process has sparked widespread outrage across the constituency. Members have accused the party leadership of enabling political manipulation at the expense of transparency and grassroots inclusion.

Stakeholders are now calling on the Lagos APC leadership and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to step in and ensure that democratic processes are respected. They warn that failure to conduct open and fair primaries in Alimosho could lead to unrest, increase apathy among party members, and ultimately weaken the APC’s dominance in its largest voting bloc.

“Alimosho is the heartbeat of Lagos politics,” said a youth leader in Egbeda. “If the party loses its credibility here because of imposition and injustice, the consequences will be felt far beyond this constituency.”

As the crisis deepens, party faithful are asking whether the APC will uphold its promised commitment to internal democracy or betray the trust of aspirants who have invested millions into the process.
