National Sports Festival: Adebiyi Adeleye Applauds Abiodun Over ‘Historic’ Opening Ceremony

Asiwaju Adebiyi Adeleye, Special Adviser to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun on Political Affairs and aspirant for the Remo Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, has lauded Governor Abiodun for what he described as a “remarkable and historic” opening ceremony of the 22nd National Sports Festival, held on Saturday at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta.

Adeleye, who also serves as a member of the Ogun State Protocol Team for the event, said the successful flag-off of the festival marks a new chapter in sports development in the state and signals Ogun’s readiness to take the lead in youth engagement through sports.

“This festival is a bold statement. It shows that Ogun State, under Governor Abiodun’s leadership, is serious about empowering young people through sports. It is not just about medals. It is about opportunities,” Adeleye said.

He praised the governor’s strategic investments in sporting infrastructure across the state, citing the construction of world-class facilities such as an Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis and handball courts, and upgraded training grounds. He noted that such efforts have transformed Ogun into a preferred destination for national sporting events.

Welcoming the over 10,000 athletes and officials to Ogun, Adeleye described the Gateway State as a land of peace, hospitality, and endless possibilities. He assured all guests of a safe, enjoyable, and competitive atmosphere throughout the festival, which will run until May 30 and feature 40 sporting events.

On his aspiration to represent Remo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Adeleye reiterated his commitment to using sports and youth development as tools for economic growth and social change.

“If given the mandate, I will push for federal support to build sports infrastructure in our local communities, sponsor grassroots tournaments, and ensure that the next generation of athletes from Sagamu, Ikenne, and Remo North have the resources they need to thrive,” he said.

Adeleye added that Ogun’s successful hosting of the festival will leave a lasting legacy, not just in infrastructure but in the minds of young Nigerians inspired by the experience. He praised Governor Abiodun’s leadership, stating that what the world witnessed at the opening ceremony was not just a celebration of sports, but a reflection of vision, preparation, and performance. He said Ogun State has clearly raised the bar.
