Moshood Jimoh Appointed Lagos Police Commissioner Amid Assembly Crisis

The Police Service Commission has named Moshood Jimoh as the new Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, a decision that comes amid ongoing political turbulence in the state’s House of Assembly.

The appointment was confirmed in a statement on Monday by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations for the Commission.

Before his new role, Jimoh served as Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Ports Authority. His extensive career includes positions as the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) at the Airport Police, DCP of Finance and Administration, and DCP General of Investigation.

Jimoh, a native of Kwara State, appeared before the Commission’s Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu, alongside Justice Adamu Paul Galmuje (a retired Supreme Court Justice) and DIG Taiwo Lakanu, who represents the Police on the Commission.

His appointment follows heightened tensions in Lagos politics. Earlier on Monday, operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police took control of the state Assembly complex as lawmakers clashed over the House leadership.

The crisis erupted days after Mojisola Meranda was elected Speaker following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa.
