2 min readThe Mandate Movement, a prominent socio-political group, has extended its heartfelt congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his re-election as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The group’s commendation was delivered by a chieftain, Prince Adewale Arogundade, on behalf of its State Chairman, Abdullahi Ayinde Enilolobo, in a statement released today.
President Tinubu’s re-election took place during the 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This milestone marks a continuation of Tinubu’s leadership since his initial election to the position in Guinea-Bissau on July 9, 2023.
In his acceptance speech, President Tinubu emphasized his commitment to consolidating democratic values and upholding the interests of the regional body. He also announced the appointment of Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Togo’s President Faure Gnassingbé as Special Envoys to Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger Republic, tasked with addressing regional challenges.
Reflecting on President Tinubu’s leadership, Enilolobo stated, “The Mandate Movement congratulates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his well-deserved re-election as ECOWAS Chairman. His reappointment is a testament to his exceptional leadership qualities and the confidence the sub-region has in his vision for West Africa. We will continue to offer him the necessary support to succeed, both in Nigeria and across Africa.”
Enilolobo highlighted the significant strides made under Tinubu’s guidance, noting his pivotal role in fostering economic integration, promoting regional peace and security, and enhancing cooperation among member states. “President Tinubu’s strategic approach and dedication have been instrumental in addressing the region’s challenges, including threats to democracy and insecurity. His commitment to dialogue and diplomacy has averted crises that could have had dire consequences for the entire region,” Enilolobo added.
The Mandate Movement expressed its readiness to support President Tinubu in his ongoing efforts to advance the objectives and values of ECOWAS, reaffirming their commitment to the progress and stability of the West African region.
