Lagos Assembly Speaker, Obasa Allegedly Padded 2024 Lagos Budget, Labelled As Corrupt Lawmaker

1 min read

Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, is once again in the eye of the storm, as he is alleged to have padded the 2024 Lagos State Budget to the tune of billions of naira.

It was also revealed by Jackson Ude, a social commentator, that on a monthly basis, Obasa, who represents Agege 1 Constituency at the Lagos State Hallowed Chamber, is allocated approximately N1.6 billion, much of which is allegedly unaccounted for.

Ude, who took to his X handle, @jacksonpbn, alleged that Obasa owns over 70 landed properties in Agege, Ikorodu, and other parts of Lagos State. The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly is also alleged by Ude to own no fewer than 40 houses in Ikorodu.

Jackson Ude disclosed that Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former boss of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had frozen over 64 accounts allegedly belonging to Obasa, using proxies, including his mistresses, nieces, nephews, and children, to perpetrate his corrupt practices.

The revelation by Jackson Ude has again reinforced the call on the anti-graft agencies, the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), to investigate the allegations against Obasa, whose corruption cases appear to have been covered up since the change of leadership at the EFCC following the unceremonious removal and questionable detention of Abdulrasheed Bawa.
