GAPOSA Students Union Govt Takes A Stand Against Rental Fees And Security Threats

In a move to address the growing concerns of students at Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade (GAPOSA), the Student Union Government has issued a press statement and was made available to Readership NG, calling for immediate action on inflated rent and security issues plaguing the student community.
New ND1 and HND 1 students have been particularly vocal about the problems they face, ranging from exorbitant rental fees imposed by estate agents to serious security concerns, including incidents of assault and threats from locals.
In response to these pressing matters, the Student Union Government led by Comrade Olatunji Idowu Alexander is urging the implementation of stringent regulations and the enforcement of existing legislation. Their call is directed at various stakeholders, including the Community Development Associations (CDA), Landlords Associations, Estate Agents, and Caretakers. The aim is to ensure the provision of safe and secure living conditions.
The Student Union Government emphasized the critical role of such conditions in preventing various crimes, including ritualism and cybercrime, which have become growing concerns among the student population.
Furthermore, the Student Union Government has reached out to a multitude of authorities for intervention. They have called upon the State Government, Ogun House of Assembly, the Remo North Local Government Chairman, the Remo North Legislative Council, the State Security Service (SSS), the Civil Defense Corps, the Nigeria Police Force, and Amotekun, among others, to step in on behalf of the students. They argue that the situation has become particularly unbearable for parents with lower socioeconomic status who are striving to support their children’s education at the Polytechnic.
In a special appeal to the State Government, the Student Union Government has requested the implementation of a rent regularization policy for students across all institutions in Ogun State, with a specific focus on GAPOSA. They are also seeking a town hall meeting with property owners in the host communities, namely ISARA, IPARA, and ODE-REMO, to address these issues promptly.
Additionally, the Student Union Government has called upon the school management, led by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi, and the esteemed BALOGUN of Ipara Land and his cabinet, to support their efforts in putting an end to the excesses, extortion, robbery, and threats to life by property owners and agents within the community.
The students’ plea for regular communication and acknowledgement of their concerns echoes throughout the press statement. They hope that the newly appointed Rector, Dr. Kehinde Oseni, will leverage his esteemed position to intervene and prevent students from resorting to demonstrations and protests due to the ongoing controversies surrounding these issues.
The students’ representatives rolled out their President and Public Relations Officer, Comr. Tanimowo Oluwatobi Joel contact details for further inquiries, and interested parties are encouraged to reach out. The President can be reached via phone: 08077713652, Email: idowuolatunji18@gmail.com, while the PRO can be reached via phone: 09058094485, Email: Skulboyed50@gmail.com
The Student Union Government at GAPOSA remains resolute in its pursuit of a safer and more affordable living environment for its students, and they are calling on all stakeholders to join hands in achieving this goal.
