Fubara, Not Wike, Is Rivers PDP Leader, Says Bode George
2 min readA chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has called for reconciliation between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike so that peace can return to Rivers State.
The latest development was the burning of several local government secretariats on Monday, coinciding with the first day of work for newly elected local government officials.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, George expressed his concern over the situation, emphasizing his desire for peace to return to the oil-rich state.
“I am not taking sides,” George stated, “I only want justice, equity, and fairness in the politics of Rivers State.”
However, George made it clear that Governor Fubara is the rightful leader of the PDP in Rivers and called on the party to rally behind him.
“Justice means recognizing who the leader of the party in the state is. It’s not the minister; it’s the governor,” George said. “We must stand by him. The positive thing is that he has confirmed he’s staying in the party, and they’ve already conducted the elections.”
George also revealed that he and other members of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) have made efforts to mediate between Fubara and Wike.
“I spoke with the chairman of the board of trustees, and we attempted, along with a group of BOT members, to meet with Fubara to hear his perspective. I also reached out to Wike, asking for a meeting. He told me he’d be available after returning from China,” George explained. “Unfortunately, the others have met with them, but I haven’t, so I don’t know the outcome yet.”
George stressed that it is the responsibility of the BOT to step in during internal conflicts like this to help find a resolution.
