FG’s Takeover Of TASUED Exposes Abiodun And Ogun APC’s Failures, Says PDP

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration over the Federal Government’s takeover of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), describing it as a clear indictment of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Otunba Arc Kayode Adebayo, the PDP noted that the takeover is not a sign of progress but rather a reflection of the state government’s failure to manage its educational assets.
The opposition party recalled that TASUED was established during the PDP-led administration of former Governor Gbenga Daniel (2003–2011) to expand access to higher education and provide employment opportunities for Ogun State residents. However, the PDP accused the APC-led government, particularly under Governor Abiodun, of neglecting the university and other state-owned higher institutions despite operating a trillion-naira annual budget.
“It is shameful that the same APC government that boasts of economic progress cannot adequately fund just one of its most significant academic institutions. What a begging shame!” the statement read.
The PDP further lamented that Ogun State has now lost control over TASUED, which means it can no longer dictate admission policies, set institutional priorities, or influence employment opportunities for its indigenes. While the party acknowledged that the takeover might help rescue the university from total collapse, it warned that this should not become a trend where the state government continually fails in its responsibilities, forcing federal intervention.
Beyond the educational sector, the PDP also accused the Abiodun administration of gross neglect in infrastructure. The party highlighted the recent collapse of the Odo’pako Bridge in Ota, a vital link between Ogun and Lagos States, as a prime example of the APC government’s incompetence. The bridge, which was hastily repaired last year, has now failed before the full onset of the rainy season, leading to public outcry.
“Every discerning mind knows that the APC government in Ogun has demonstrated a lack of capacity and basic ideas on governance. Perhaps Governor Abiodun and his incompetent team expect the Federal Government to take over the entire machinery of governance in Ogun State,” the PDP remarked.
The opposition party called on the public and stakeholders to demand transparency from Governor Abiodun regarding government spending in the education sector and his plans to prevent further institutional decline. It insisted that Ogun State cannot afford to ignore the deteriorating state of public institutions under the current administration.
“No matter the amount of media deodorization deployed by this government, the takeover of TASUED by the Federal Government confirms the disturbing state of public education in Ogun. Governance is about responsibility, not excuses. Governor Abiodun must not be allowed to bury the fortunes of the state under flimsy justifications,” the statement concluded.
