FAZAMSS Commends Gov. Lawal For Clearing ₦163m Scholarship Backlog After 10 Years
The Federated Association of Zamfara State Students (FAZAMSS) has lauded Governor Dauda Lawal for approving and releasing the sum of ₦163 million to settle a decade-long backlog owed to 149 Zamfara State–sponsored students at Crescent University, Abeokuta.
In a statement signed by its National Assistant Secretary General, Muhammad Musa, the student body described the gesture as a “landmark achievement” that restores dignity to Zamfara students and rekindles trust in government-sponsored education.
The payment, which began in August 2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of October, ends ten years of financial hardship and uncertainty endured by affected students and their families due to unpaid tuition fees inherited from previous administrations.
FAZAMSS praised Governor Lawal’s action as a reflection of his sincerity, compassion, and commitment to reviving the educational sector of the state, saying his leadership “is grounded in justice and service to humanity.”
The association also commended Professor Rasheedah Liman, Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Scholarship Board, for her “discipline, transparency, and dedication,” which it said played a pivotal role in achieving the milestone.
According to FAZAMSS, her hands-on supervision and open-door policy have restored confidence in the state’s scholarship administration and inspired renewed hope among students within and outside the state.
The group further expressed optimism that Governor Lawal’s administration would soon reinstate the Local Scholarship Scheme to ensure equal opportunities for all Zamfara students.
“FAZAMSS, on behalf of all Zamfara State students home and abroad, pledges continued cooperation with the government to promote transparency, accountability, and progress in student welfare,” the statement added.
The association concluded by saluting Governor Dauda Lawal for his “bold and humane intervention” and reaffirmed its support for all efforts aimed at uplifting education standards in Zamfara State.
