Crowd Safety Fears Force End Of Free Access At Olumo Rock
The Ogun State Government has announced that the free entry initiative at the newly renovated Olumo Rock Tourist Complex will come to an end on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the government expressed gratitude to residents, tourists, and visitors for what it described as the “overwhelming and unprecedented turnout” since the reopening of the historic site.
According to the government, the initiative, introduced by Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON, was designed to allow the public to rediscover the cultural and historical significance of Olumo Rock after its facelift. Thousands of people reportedly took advantage of the free access, which officials said demonstrated the success of the initiative.
However, the state noted that the massive influx of visitors also raised safety concerns. At certain periods, the volume of the crowd posed risks of a possible stampede, which security agencies and on-site personnel were able to avert.
“His Excellency has therefore directed that the free entry initiative will come to an end on Saturday, 23rd August, 2025. Normal access procedures will resume thereafter,” the statement read.
While regretting any inconvenience the adjustment may cause, the government assured the public of its continued commitment to ensuring safety and delivering a world-class tourism experience at Olumo Rock.
