BREAKING: FCTA Seals Access Bank Over 34 Years Of Unpaid Rent
The Federal Capital Territory Administration has sealed the Access Bank branch located within Wuse Market in Abuja over failure to pay ground rent owed for more than three decades.
The enforcement action took place on Monday following repeated warnings from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. He had earlier cautioned property owners, including corporate institutions, that continued refusal to meet financial obligations would lead to the revocation of their property rights.
At the entrance of the affected bank branch, an official notice was placed, clearly stating that the property has been taken over by the FCTA.
According to reports by Readership NG, the closure is part of a broader clampdown on defaulters who have neglected statutory payments owed to the administration.
The minister’s office had issued a public statement last week indicating that enforcement would commence this week. Access Bank appears to be one of the first high-profile entities affected by the renewed revenue drive.
As at the time of filing this report, no official response has been received from Access Bank regarding the development.
