An Ode To Dr. Prince Doyin Okupe: The Fall Of An Elephant (Erin Wo)
The death of Dr. Prince Doyin Okupe is a monumental loss to Remoland, Ogun State, and the entire Nigerian political landscape. He was a colossus in the corridors of power, a man of unparalleled intellect, unwavering conviction, and remarkable versatility. His passing marks the end of an era, one defined by passion, resilience, and an unyielding commitment to the ideals he held dear.
Dr. Okupe was many things; a distinguished medical doctor, a political strategist, a gifted writer, and a media expert. But above all, he was a bridge between generations, a man who used his wealth of experience to shape political discourse in Nigeria. His journey in politics was as inspiring as it was influential. His contributions to governance, media relations, and political communication remain indelible. He was a master of words, a strategist of uncommon brilliance, and a man deeply rooted in the cause of democracy.
Beyond politics, he was a man of warmth, compassion, and sincerity. Those who knew him personally will forever remember his charming personality, his disarming sense of humour, and his genuine concern for the well-being of others. The entire members of APC in Remo North, Ikenne, and Sagamu Local Governments will eternally cherish the good life he lived, his humane qualities, and the happy memories he left behind.

As we mourn his passing, we extend our deepest condolences to the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Agbonmagbe family of Iperu, and all the citizens of Remo, Ogun State, and Nigeria. Dr. Okupe’s departure is a stark reminder of the transient nature of life, as echoed in the Latin saying: “Omnibus Moriendum est”—We shall all end in death.
Dr. Okupe was not just a political figure; he was a comrade, a brother, and a dear friend. His last words to me, a testament to our shared bond, will forever remain etched in my heart:
“As I said before, I do miss everyone, especially the wits and sagacity of our indefatigable chairman —Chief Sir Kolapo Ogunjobi.”
Rest well, my friend. Your legacy is immortal.

High Chief Sir Kolapo Ogunjobi, DCOR, JP2.
