IGP Disu Meets Edo Governor, Emphasises Community Policing And Public Trust

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, community partnership, and people-focused law enforcement during a meeting with the Governor of Edo State at the State House.
During the engagement, the IGP appreciated the Edo State Government for its continued support and cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force, noting that security remains a collective responsibility that requires active collaboration between law enforcement agencies, government institutions, and members of the public.
According to the IGP, all Commissioners of Police across the country have been directed to make their phone numbers publicly accessible in order to strengthen communication and improve trust between the police and citizens.
He stressed the importance of officers building healthy relationships with communities, describing modern policing as one that must be driven by intelligence, professionalism, transparency, and public consent.
“The people are the masters,” the IGP stated, emphasizing that policing works best when citizens willingly cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
He further noted that officers have been encouraged to ensure members of the public understand the reasons for their arrest or any police action taken against them, in line with global best practices and respect for human rights.
The IGP also highlighted the Force’s renewed focus on intelligence policing and proactive crime prevention aimed at improving public safety across the country.
In his remarks, the Governor of Edo State commended the IGP for his professionalism, calm disposition, and civil approach to leadership, describing his conduct as exemplary.
The Governor pledged the state government’s
continued support and cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force, while emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration between the police and state authorities in addressing security challenges.
He also praised officers and personnel serving in Edo State for their dedication and tireless efforts toward ensuring the safety and security of residents.
The Governor expressed appreciation for the leadership and direction being provided to the Edo State Police Command under the guidance of the IGP, noting that the Force’s evolving approach to community engagement and professionalism is gradually strengthening public confidence in policing.
