By Lateef Owodunni | Readership NG
As political activities officially commence ahead of the 2027 Governorship and State House of Assembly elections, attention is shifting to candidates seeking the mandate of the people across Ogun State. In Remo North State Constituency, one of the names on the ballot will be Pastor Oluwole Olutayo David, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the Ogun State House of Assembly. His candidacy marks another chapter in a journey spanning Christian ministry, entrepreneurship, corporate management, public administration, community leadership and grassroots politics.
A native of Isara Remo in Remo North Local Government Area, Pastor David comes from two respected lineages deeply rooted in the community. His father hailed from the renowned Fodegbuwa Compound, while his mother was from the esteemed Oluwo Compound, both in Isara Remo. His upbringing was shaped by faith, discipline, hard work, strong family values and a deep sense of responsibility to his community, principles that have continued to influence his personal, professional and public life.
His educational journey began at The Apostolic Primary School, Oke Soda, Ile Ife, before he proceeded to Oduduwa College, Ile Ife, where he completed his secondary education between 1985 and 1989. He obtained the West African School Certificate and the General Certificate of Education before proceeding to The Polytechnic Ibadan, where he earned an Ordinary National Diploma in Business Studies between 1998 and 2001 and later pursued a Higher National Diploma in Marketing. His education provided a foundation for a professional career that would span corporate management, marketing and entrepreneurship.
Between 2001 and 2016, Pastor David worked with MASKEL Distilleries Limited, serving as Marketing Manager and Independent Marketer. During his 15 years with the company, he gained experience in market expansion, product promotion, customer relations, sales coordination and commercial operations. He later channelled that experience into entrepreneurship and currently serves as Managing Director of David Olutayo Oluwole Global Ltd., a company involved in the exportation of wood and related business ventures, giving him practical exposure to enterprise, international trade and economic activity.
His political involvement is equally rooted in the grassroots. Between 2003 and 2012, he served three consecutive terms as Secretary of Ward 03 of the Peoples Democratic Party in Remo North, where he was involved in party organisation, mobilisation and community engagement. In 2011, he served as a Consultant to the Transition Committee of Remo North Local Government, contributing his expertise to local governance, policy implementation and community development. These experiences have given him familiarity with both grassroots politics and the workings of local government.
Beyond politics and business, Pastor David has built a longstanding record of Christian service. He has served in various capacities within Living Faith Church, popularly known as Winners Chapel, including as Assistant Pastor at Living Faith Church, Ode Remo, and Senior Pastor at Living Faith Church, Ipara Remo. He currently serves as part of the Pastorate at Living Faith Church, Isara Remo. He also served as Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Isara Remo Chapter, from 2006 to 2009, and currently serves as a Patron of the CAN Remo North Chapter. His years in ministry and Christian leadership have strengthened his involvement in pastoral care, mentorship, community engagement and the promotion of unity.
Pastor David’s candidacy is closely connected to his roots and longstanding relationship with the people of Remo North. His business experience has exposed him to the realities of enterprise and economic opportunity, while his years in ministry and community leadership have brought him close to the concerns of families and individuals. Combined with his political and local government experience, these have shaped a broad understanding of leadership and public service that he now brings to his bid for the State House of Assembly.
With international exposure that includes visits to the United States in 2018 and Canada in 2024, Pastor David has also gained broader perspectives on entrepreneurship, leadership, governance and community development. Yet his connection to home remains strong. As a married man and a son deeply rooted in Isara Remo, he remains committed to the social, economic and spiritual development of his community and the wider Remo North area.
As the 2027 campaign season begins, Pastor Oluwole Olutayo David enters the contest with more than two decades of experience across business, ministry, grassroots politics, public administration and community service. His candidacy will ultimately be decided by the electorate, but his record offers voters an opportunity to assess his experience and capacity beyond campaign rhetoric. From the corporate world to entrepreneurship, from grassroots politics to local government and from Christian ministry to community leadership, his journey has been defined by service. Now, he seeks to take that experience to the Ogun State House of Assembly and earn the mandate to represent the people of Remo North State Constituency.
