Renowned Nigerian dramatist Prof Wole Soyinka revealed that President Bola Tinubu disregarded his counsel against running for the presidency.
Soyinka, during a courtesy visit to Tinubu’s Lagos residence, mentioned that his purpose was to check on the President and his wife, despite Tinubu overlooking his advice.
Soyinka stated that he presented a seven-point agenda to the President during the visit, describing the encounter as “embarrassing.”
Speaking to reporters afterward, Soyinka admitted the discomfort of his visit, recalling his previous attempt about five years ago to dissuade both Tinubu and Atiku from contesting to make room for younger candidates.
Expressing his concern for Nigeria’s future leadership, Soyinka noted his intention in the recent visit was to gauge how Tinubu and his wife were coping with the nation’s challenges and to extend Christmas greetings, despite the President disregarding his previous advice.
