Tinubu Brokers Peace As Fubara, Wike And Assembly Members Settle Rift
Readership NG reports that the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has reconciled with his predecessor and political rival, Nyesom Wike, following the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The reconciliation, which also involved aggrieved members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, marks a significant step toward restoring peace and stability in the state. It is now expected that Fubara will soon be reinstated as governor, pending official processes.
The rift between Fubara and Wike, though never fully disclosed to the public, led to deep political divisions and widespread unrest across Rivers State. Development projects were stalled, and tensions between rival factions escalated into violence in several areas.
A major fallout occurred in the state legislature, where Fubara reportedly recognized only four lawmakers as legitimate, disregarding 27 others believed to be loyal to Wike. This sparked a constitutional crisis that eventually led to court interventions, which ruled in favor of the pro-Wike lawmakers.
In response to the deepening crisis, President Tinubu reportedly declared a state of emergency in the state and suspended all elected officials. A military administrator was temporarily installed to maintain order and prevent further breakdown of governance.
With the recent reconciliation, stakeholders are optimistic that normalcy will return, and governance in Rivers State will resume in full capacity.
