Sheikh Gumi Speaks Out After Meeting With Security Agencies

Following his recent comments on banditry in Nigeria, controversial Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has shed light on his meeting with security agencies after being invited by authorities.

Minister of Information and Orientation, Mohammed Idris, had earlier stated that Gumi was summoned after accusing the federal government of recklessness in labeling individuals yet to face trial as “terrorism financiers.”

Addressing the outcome of the meeting, Gumi described it as productive, emphasizing the need for unity and collaboration in tackling the menace of banditry in the country. He stated:

“Only one person is above the law: the innocent. Last night I got many frantic calls from well-wishers and journalists about a news item that I was interviewed by security. There is absolutely no cause for alarm.

“Yes, we had a productive interaction on how to curb banditry as we are all trying — each in his own sphere — to tackle the monster bedevilling the nation. There was no animosity but courtesy and full of respect.

“We all need as a nation to unite and work in synergy to achieve everlasting peace.”
