“Security Is Everyone’s Business” — Sagamu Chairman Moves To Curb Rising Crime Trends

Sagamu Local Government Area is relatively calm with no major security threats recorded, officials said Tuesday, even as authorities raised concerns over rising incidents of motorcycle snatching, burglary, theft, and jungle justice in the community.

The Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate, disclosed this while presiding over the monthly statutory security meeting, where security agencies reviewed the situation across the council area.

While commending the relative peace, Odulate noted that the meeting carefully examined recent unrest arising from grievances among commercial motorcycle operators, adding that steps have already been taken to address the situation and restore order.

“I strongly emphasized that no citizen has the right to take the law into their own hands,” Odulate said in a statement after the meeting. “I urge all residents to report suspicious activities and criminal acts to the appropriate security agencies, rather than resorting to self-help.”

The chairman also highlighted the growing concern of drug abuse among both young and older individuals, stating that security agencies are intensifying efforts to clamp down on drug-related activities, including raids on identified hotspots. He called on community leaders and stakeholders to support these efforts by providing timely and useful information.

“The peace of Sagamu is non-negotiable,” Odulate said. “We must all remain vigilant and committed to the principle of ‘see something, say something.’ Until offenders are consistently brought to justice, we may not achieve the level of deterrence we desire.”

He commended the joint efforts of all security agencies for their swift responses and dedication to duty, adding that the Joint Task Force will operate a standing order framework to ensure immediate action in times of emergency.

“Security is everyone’s business, and together, we can sustain the peace we all desire,” the chairman said.
