Rivers Police Hunt Top LG Officials Over Brutal Assault On Council Boss

The Rivers State Police Command has declared two senior officials of Ahoada-East Local Government Area, Chief Security Officer Hector Ekeakita and Chief of Staff Aloni Olodi wanted for their alleged involvement in a brutal assault on the council’s administrator, Goodluck Iheanachor.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the suspects are facing charges of criminal conspiracy, stealing, assault occasioning harm, and attempted murder.

The incident occurred on June 20, 2025, at the local government secretariat, where a group of about 30 individuals reportedly attacked Iheanachor, inflicting bodily injuries, stealing mobile phones and official documents, and coercing him to endorse certain papers before looting personal and administrative items from his office.

The administrator is currently receiving medical treatment for the injuries sustained during the attack.

Despite being formally invited for questioning, both Ekeakita and Olodi have failed to appear before the authorities. Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, has declared them wanted and urged them to report to the state police headquarters on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, without delay.

The police also warned that anyone found harbouring or assisting the suspects would face legal consequences.

In a televised appearance on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on June 23, Ekeakita denied any role in the attack, insisting he had no reason to harm the administrator.

“As the Chief Security Officer, why would I lead hoodlums to harm the person I’m appointed to protect? I was not seen in any video,” he said.

He claimed he was in his office when he heard the commotion and, upon investigating, was told to step aside as it was a dispute between the administrator and some aggrieved political appointees over unpaid allowances.

“I didn’t record anything. I didn’t bring anyone into the building. So how are the Chief of Staff and I part of this?” he questioned.

The incident drew widespread condemnation after a viral video showed the administrator on the floor, visibly distressed, as several individuals physically assaulted him. In the footage, voices could be heard shouting at him to approve a document under pressure.

The disturbing scenes have raised serious concerns about political violence and governance at the grassroots level in Rivers State.

As of press time, police investigations are ongoing, while the search for the two wanted officials continues.
