PWAN Behind Scott Iguma’s Arrest, Counsel Alleges

In a dramatic twist to the ongoing legal drama involving social commentator Scott Iguma, his legal team has officially named Dr. Augustine Onwumere, the founder of PWAN Group, as the individual behind his recent arrest and detention.

According to a press release signed by his counsel, Aliere Stan Alieke, Esq, Scott Iguma was arrested on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, following a petition allegedly filed by Dr. Onwumere. The arrest came after weeks of tension between Iguma and the real estate giant PWAN, which had publicly distanced itself from any involvement in Iguma’s legal troubles.

However, the statement by Mr. Alieke has now changed the narrative.

“We confirm that he was arrested following a petition filed by Dr. Augustine Onwumere, the founder of PWAN Group,” the statement read. “He was arraigned today, Thursday, July 17, 2025, before the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos. Bail was not granted, and he had earlier been denied administrative bail by the police. The court ordered that he remain in custody at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility until Monday, July 21, 2025.”

The case, which has generated widespread public attention, stems from Iguma’s viral videos accusing PWAN of questionable real estate practices, including “selling receipts instead of land.” These comments sparked debates across social media, drawing both support and backlash.

Until now, PWAN Group had denied involvement in any legal action against the social media influencer. The revelation that its founder personally filed the petition contradicts previous public statements and is expected to raise more questions about the company’s role in the unfolding legal saga.

Despite the setback, Iguma’s legal team remains optimistic.

“We assure the public, friends, and loved ones that our legal team is fully engaged and committed to ensuring that Mr. Iguma’s rights are vigorously defended, and we are confident that he will soon be reunited with his family,” the lawyer added.

Supporters of the detained influencer have continued to express solidarity online, with hashtags demanding his release now trending on all social media platforms. Civil liberty advocates have also called for transparency and due process in the matter.

As the legal battle intensifies, all eyes will be on the court hearing scheduled for Monday, where Iguma’s fate, at least in the short term may be decided.
