PDP Slams Ogun SSG Over Whistleblower’s Arrest, Accountability Sought

2 min read

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the recent arrest of Barr. Femi Oniyide by the Nigeria Police Force in connection with his allegations against Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the secretary of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration.

The party alleges that this arrest, along with the previous detention of Otunba Femi Davies, is part of a deliberate effort by Mr. Talabi to suppress dissenting voices and whistleblowers.

Mr. Oniyide’s arrest, which was widely publicized, has raised concerns within the PDP. The party questions how a non-elected government official can utilize state resources to arrange citizens’ arrests without oversight, especially concerning serious allegations such as breach of oath and money laundering.

Furthermore, the PDP is raising questions about Mr. Talabi’s past involvement with Superflux Limited. If it is confirmed that Mr. Talabi was indeed the former managing director of the company. The party argues that the Dapo Abiodun-led government should have either requested his immediate resignation or announced his suspension, pending a comprehensive investigation into the alleged crimes. However, it appears that Mr. Talabi enjoys a level of protection within the government.

The PDP highlights the fact that even the richest man in Africa has faced petition writings against him, emphasizing that such actions are not out of place in a civil administration. Therefore, the party demands Mr. Talabi’s immediate resignation from the office, citing his refusal to address the allegations and his reliance on intimidation and harassment.

The PDP accuses the APC government of attempting to intimidate the lawyer and all whistleblowers who have come forward with allegations against Mr. Talabi. They assert that these actions reflect poorly on Governor Dapo Abiodun’s leadership.

In their quest for truth and accountability, the PDP calls on relevant investigative agencies to examine Mr. Talabi’s 2019 Code of Conduct assets declaration form to determine his ties to Superflux Limited. The party emphasizes that public institutions, including government, should not be turned into instruments of terror against the people.

Asiwaju Akinloye Bankole, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Ogun State, issued this statement, underlining the party’s commitment to transparency and good governance.
