PDP Optimistic Following Appeal Judgement, Dismisses Abiodun’s Invitation

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed satisfaction with the recent Appeal Court judgment on the Ogun State Governorship election. The party remains hopeful that justice will prevail in reclaiming the mandate it believes was freely given by the people.

Acknowledging the judiciary’s role in upholding the merits of their petition, the PDP highlighted the contrast with the Election Petition Tribunal, which focused on technicalities. The Appellate court’s decision, particularly the minority judgment by Hon. Justice Jane Inyang favored the PDP, restoring hope for their candidate, Hon. (Dr) Oladipupo Adebutu.

Justice Inyang’s detailed judgment not only ousted Mr. Abiodun from the governor’s office but also called for the withdrawal of his Certificate of Return. The court mandated a rerun election in 99 polling units affected by violence and malpractices during the March 18th governorship election.

Responding to Abiodun’s invitation to collaborate, Asiwaju Akinloye Bankole, the publicity secretary of the PDP in Ogun State, firmly rejected the offer, deeming it senseless and an insult. They emphasized that Abiodun’s current victory is temporary, pending further legal challenges. The PDP asserted that neither Hon. Adebutu nor any sensible individual would join hands with Abiodun in compromising the state’s integrity and resources.

The party criticized Abiodun’s governance, alleging the squandering and looting of taxpayers’ resources. They reiterated their commitment to the cause, thanking supporters and assuring the people of Ogun that they would persist in their legal battle.
