PDP Condemns Rising Insecurity In Ogun State, Calls For Urgent Action
In a press statement released today, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ogun State Chapter, strongly criticized the state government under Governor Dapo Abiodun, asserting that its lack of capacity has emboldened violent killings, posing a serious security threat to the entire state.
The party through its Publicity Secretary, Asiwaju Akinloye Bankole, expressed deep concern over the escalating violence and insecurity in Abeokuta and Ogun State, emphasizing that the situation has been worsening in recent years, particularly since Governor Abiodun assumed office.
The PDP claimed that the current administration has shown a lack of capability in handling the security challenges faced by the state, citing recent incidents as evidence.
The press statement highlighted several disturbing events, including the tragic death of a 12-year-old boy and the gruesome murder of a serving director in the state civil service. The PDP also pointed out a robbery and violent attack on female students at Gateway Polythenic, Sapaade, leading to student protests. The party criticized Governor Abiodun’s recent statement on a live television program, where he claimed Ogun State to be the safest in Nigeria.
The PDP condemned the killings and called on the police and other security agencies to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Additionally, the party urged Governor Abiodun and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to provide details of their supporters who were allegedly armed during the March 18th, 2023 elections, considering the alarming circulation of arms and ammunition in the state.
The press statement suggested a partnership between the government and Community Development Associations (CDAs) across the state to address security threats at the community level. The PDP warned of potential consequences if the perpetrators were not apprehended promptly.
Finally, the PDP expressed condolences to the families affected by recent incidents and called for a swift end to what they described as the “brazen incompetence” of those responsible for protecting citizens. The party offered prayers for lasting peace, tranquility, and relief for the people of Ogun State.
