PDP Challenges Abiodun’s N50m Bounty, Demands Independent Investigation On Oyekanmi’s Murder Case

In response to the Ogun State government’s announcement of a 50 million naira bounty on the killers of Taiwo Oyekanmi, the late Director of Finance and Administration, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), through its spokesperson, Asiwaju Akinloye Bankole, questions the governor’s motives and demands transparency.

The PDP expresses concern over the governor’s handling of the case, highlighting the suspicious circumstances surrounding the murder, including the lack of police escorts for the deceased and the withdrawal of a significant amount of money from the governor’s office on the day of the incident.

The party raises pertinent questions about the origin of the funds, emphasizing the need for the government to disclose whether the money belongs to the Ogun State government or private accounts, and if it is public funds, the government must reveal the legitimate owners. The PDP insists on openness, transparency, and probity in handling public assets.

Moreover, the PDP calls for Governor Abiodun to address concerns raised by the public, especially regarding the purpose of the substantial cash withdrawal and the lack of security measures for the late Oyekanmi during his visit to the bank.

The party urges an independent investigation into the matter by the State House of Assembly, emphasizing the importance of accountability in government spending. The PDP insists that every expenditure by the governor and his cabinet must be thoroughly examined and accounted for before the parliament to ensure the responsible use of public funds.

Finally, the PDP stresses the need for the governor to respond to the genuine concerns raised by the public and assures that placing a bounty on criminal elements is acceptable if done with honesty and not as a mere media stunt. The party insists on upholding the principles of openness and accountability in governance.
