PDP Challenges Abiodun’s ‘Trial And Error’ Approach To CNG Bus Launch

The Ogun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced its concerns and criticisms regarding the official launch of the E-Mobility Program by the APC-led government under Prince Dapo Abiodun.

The launch, which has garnered media attention and exuberance, is now under scrutiny by the opposition party for issues related to transparency and road infrastructure.

Governor Abiodun presented the E-Mobility Program as a response to the impact of federal fuel subsidy removal. However, the PDP, through its Publicity Secretary, Asiwaju Akinloye Bankole, questions the transparency surrounding certain key aspects of the program.

“The public should be informed if the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses in this program are the same as those previously launched by the former Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi in April 2022. This crucial detail is necessary for an informed public discussion.

“Moreover, there is a need for clarity on the source of these vehicles. Were they procured by the Ogun State government or donated by the federal government? If they were purchased, the cost per unit should be disclosed. Such information is essential to provide a clear understanding of the program’s goals and intentions, ensuring it serves the interests of the people rather than a select few. The mysterious disappearance of the Gateway Transit Buses commissioned in April 2022 also raises questions that remain unanswered.”

The PDP highlights a pattern of “trial and error” in the Dapo Abiodun-led government’s actions, suggesting that more information should have been shared during the program’s launch, including official bus routes and tariff rates. The PDP warns citizens not to be misled by what they perceive as another superficial effort by the ruling APC government.

Additionally, the PDP raises concerns about the deplorable condition of Ogun State’s roads prior to the program’s launch. The recent acknowledgement of this issue by the visiting President of the Nigerian Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio has only amplified the urgency of addressing road infrastructure. The party emphasizes that rolling out CNG buses on deteriorating roads should not be a priority, as it reflects misplaced government priorities and a wasteful allocation of resources.

In light of these concerns, the PDP challenges the government to reassess its priorities and address the pressing issues facing the state. They argue that Governor Abiodun should prioritize the needs of the people of Ogun State and focus on improving the state’s well-being rather than engaging in symbolic endeavors.
