PDP Blames Abiodun For Escalating Violence In Ogun State
2 min readOgun State is grappling with a surge in criminal activities, prompting criticism from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) directed towards Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.
Asiwaju Akinloye Bankole, the PDP’s spokesperson in Ogun State, has sounded the alarm over what he perceives as the government’s lethargic leadership, unable to address the growing security challenges.
Bankole pointed out that since the Supreme Court’s ruling confirming Abiodun’s reelection, the government has been inactive in tackling the rising crime wave. He expressed disappointment in the lack of decisive action from the administration, emphasizing the need for urgent intervention to ensure the safety and well-being of the citizens.
“It is abundantly clear to the public that the Ogun State government under Mr. Abiodun has been dormant since its inauguration for an undeserved second term in office. The State government is currently in a state of deliberate slumber, allowing the recurrence of past failures and shortcomings witnessed between 2019 and 2023,” Bankole remarked.
The PDP highlighted concerns regarding the escalation of violent clashes among gangs, particularly prevalent in Abeokuta and other parts of the state. Bankole stressed the urgency of implementing effective measures to curb criminal activities and restore peace to the region.
Furthermore, the PDP criticized the government’s approach to economic hardships, citing dissatisfaction with what they view as insufficient support for struggling citizens. They called for more robust initiatives to address unemployment and alleviate financial burdens on the populace.
“It is worth noting that the PDP has consistently encouraged the ruling government to adopt sensible initiatives such as Lagos’s ‘Ounje Eko,’ designed to make staple foodstuffs available to the public at reduced prices, rather than reducing the people of Ogun State to beggars dependent solely on handouts,” Bankole added.
In addition, the PDP raised objections to the government’s allocation of resources, accusing it of mismanagement and misplaced priorities. Bankole urged the administration to prioritize essential services such as infrastructure development rather than frivolous expenditures.
He concluded by reaffirming the PDP’s commitment to advocating for accountability and transparency in governance. “As a responsive and responsible political entity, we are committed to exposing all inherent flaws and failures of the government. We will continue to propose better alternatives in terms of public policies and programs aimed at serving the people who have endured neglect and insensitivity from the ruling APC government.”
