Ondo Police Deny Forcing Officers To Pay For Election Duty

The Ondo State Police Command has debunked a report by Sahara Reporters claiming that Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the state were directed to contribute N39,000 each to fund the deployment of officers to Lagos for the upcoming local government elections.

In a press statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the allegation was described as “entirely false, baseless, and a deliberate attempt to distort facts.”

“At no point were officers asked to make any financial contribution,” the statement read. “The report is a clear case of misinformation aimed at misleading the public and undermining the integrity of the Police Command.”

The Command clarified that the deployment of personnel to Lagos was in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, as part of standard inter-command cooperation to ensure security during the elections.

According to the statement, all logistics and welfare arrangements were handled by the Command, and officers have already reported at their assigned posts without bearing any personal costs.

“It is unfortunate that the writer of the false report has chosen to ignore standard police procedures in favor of sensationalism,” DSP Ayanlade said.

The Command urged the public to disregard the publication and reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and public trust.
