Ogun West Youths To Hold Peaceful Protest Over Prolonged Power Outages

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ogun West Senatorial District, has announced a peaceful protest scheduled to take place on Thursday, December 5th, 2024, at 10:00 am.
The protest will commence at Sango Under Bridge, proceeding to the office of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
This demonstration is in response to over three years of prolonged power outages affecting more than 16 communities in Yewa North Local Government and other parts of Ogun West. The NYCN highlights the failure of IBEDC’s technical department to address the concerns outlined in a letter sent to the company on November 15, 2024.
The youth body, which represents various youth organizations across the senatorial district, expressed frustration over IBEDC’s perceived negligence and lack of concern for the well-being of the affected communities.
In their statement, NYCN emphasized:
“The failure of IBEDC to meet our demands by Tuesday, December 2nd, 2024, will leave us with no option but to engage the last ‘C’ in our struggle.”
The NYCN outlined four key objectives for the peaceful demonstration:
To obtain a list of materials needed to restore power supply to the affected communities.
To secure an assurance of immediate technical services once the materials are handed over to IBEDC.
To demand the immediate restoration of electricity in Yewa North Local Government and other affected areas.
To find a lasting solution to the intermittent power supply plaguing the region.
The youth council has assured that the protest will be peaceful and lawful. They have also called on security agencies to ensure the safety and security of all participants during the demonstration.
The NYCN urged IBEDC management to take immediate steps to address the grievances raised, warning that any further delay would escalate the situation.
