Ogun Govt Mourns Victims Of Fatal Lagos–Ibadan Expressway Crash Involving Anthony Joshua

The Ogun State Government has expressed profound sorrow over a tragic road accident involving world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, which occurred on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, within the Makun axis of Ogun State.
The fatal crash claimed the lives of two persons, while Anthony Joshua narrowly escaped death. The boxing icon was reportedly travelling from Lagos to Sagamu alongside three other individuals when the incident occurred.
Preliminary findings indicate that two male foreign nationals died on the spot. Their remains have since been deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu. Anthony Joshua and the driver of the vehicle were promptly rescued by security personnel attached to his convoy and taken to a medical facility, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
According to reports, the sport utility vehicle conveying the occupants rammed into a stationary truck along the expressway. While the severely damaged vehicle has been evacuated to the Sagamu Motor Traffic Division (MTD) office, arrangements are underway to tow the truck involved to the same location to aid a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.
The Ogun State Government described the incident as deeply unfortunate and painful, particularly with the loss of precious lives, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving medical care.
The government has therefore urged motorists to exercise utmost caution, obey traffic regulations, and avoid reckless driving, especially during the festive period when vehicular movement is typically heavy. Road safety officials and other security agencies have also been called upon to intensify surveillance and enforcement efforts across the State to safeguard lives and property.
Expressing heartfelt condolences, the State Government noted that the incident represents a devastating loss and extended sympathy to the bereaved families.
“As we mourn this tragic incident collectively, we pray for the repose of the souls of the departed and for the speedy recovery of those injured. May Almighty God grant the families left behind the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement read.
