Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has revealed plans to introduce a new feature on the popular social media platform, allowing Nigerian creators to monetize their content.
The feature is set to launch in June 2024, opening up opportunities for Nigerian creators to earn a livelihood through Instagram.

Nick Clegg, Meta’s President of Global Affairs, announced the company’s commitment to empowering creators in Nigeria when he led a delegation to meet with President Bola Tinubu at the State House.

Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, conveyed Clegg’s statement, highlighting Meta’s intention to deepen partnerships in Nigeria.

“We have much to do with Nigeria to deepen partnerships,” Sir Clegg affirmed.
Additionally, Clegg expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government for facilitating an executive order crucial to the landing of Meta-backed deep-sea cable infrastructure in Nigeria.

This infrastructure project is expected to have a significant economic impact, potentially amounting to $37 billion within the next two to three years across the African continent.

“It is an extraordinary infrastructure project. When it comes on stream in the first quarter of 2025, it will be twice as much as the capacity of all subsea cables that exist,” Clegg stated.

He further explained, “We buried the cable 50 percent deeper than any other subsea cables under the seabed. It is more powerful and more extensive in terms of its geographical connectivity.”
