1 min read

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a warning about the popular catchphrase “no gree for anybody,” cautioning that its widespread use by youths could potentially lead to crises in the country.

The catchphrase has gained significant traction in Nigerian social media circles and has become a humorous motto for the year 2024.

Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the police force, speaking during a press briefing held on Tuesday in Abuja, highlighted that intelligence reports indicate the slogan has the potential to plunge Nigeria into a crisis of monumental proportions.

Despite being perceived as “normal talk” by some, Adejobi emphasized that within the security community, it is viewed as a “dangerous” slogan.

“The new slogan for 2024 for young people is ‘no dey gree for anybody’,” stated Adejobi during the briefing.

“We have been informed from our intelligence that this is coming from the retributionary sector that might likely cause problems across the country. ‘No dey gree for anybody’ is being seen as just normal talk. In the security community, we have seen it as a very dangerous slogan that can trigger crises.”

Adejobi also disclosed that three individuals, Ahmed Sulaimon, Balikisu Aliyu, and Aboki Samuel, have been arrested in connection with the Christmas Eve attacks on some communities in Plateau state. The suspects are reportedly members of a syndicate involved in the attacks.
