NECO Releases June/July 2023 SSCE Internal Results

The National Examinations Council (NECO) recently held a press briefing to unveil the results of the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, Readership NG reports.

In a press briefing in Minna on Tuesday, NECO’s Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, said the result summary shows that 61.6 percent scored five credits, including English and Mathematics.

Prof. Wushishi began by expressing gratitude for the opportunity to release the results and thanked various agencies, Ministries of Education from several states, and the media for their continued support. He extended appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Honourable Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, SAN, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, and the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Andrew David Adejoh for their guidance and support.

Acknowledging the National Assembly, especially the members of the Senate and House Committees on Education, he recognized their support, guidance, and collaboration. Prof. Wushishi also praised the dedication of examiners, whose commitment enabled the timely release of results.

The 2023 SSCE Internal took place from July 10th to August 11th, 2023, with the marking exercise occurring between August 30th and September 15th, 2023. Prof. Wushishi highlighted that the results were being released all at once, 58 days after the last written paper, to ensure completeness.

Prof. Wushishi expressed his delight in revealing that the 2023 SSCE Internal results have been certified as the best in recent times. He shared some key highlights:

  • Total candidates registered: 1,205,888 (621,084 males and 584,804 females).
  • Candidates that sat for the exam: 1,196,985 (616,398 males and 580,587 females).
  • Candidates with five Credits and above, including English and Mathematics: 737,308 (61.60%).
  • Candidates with five Credits and above, regardless of English and Mathematics: 1,013,611 (84.68%).
  • Candidates with special needs: 1,542, categorized as follows:
    • 913 candidates with hearing impairment
    • 162 candidates with visual impairment
    • 103 candidates with Albinism
    • 61 candidates with Autism
    • 149 candidates with low vision
    • 154 candidates with Adermatoglyphia (no fingerprints)
  • Candidates involved in malpractice: 12,030 (0.07%), down from 13,594 in 2022.

In a bid to uphold integrity, NECO identified 93 schools engaged in mass cheating and recommended discussions and sanctions for them. Additionally, 52 supervisors faced potential blacklisting due to poor supervision and aiding malpractice.

Prof. Wushishi officially declared the 2023 SSCE Internal results released to the public. Candidates can access their results on the NECO website (www.neco.gov.ng) using their examination registration numbers.
