JUST IN: Peter Obi Raises Alarm Over Threats To Life
1 min readThe presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi has raised concerns about threats to his life and family following his New Year message to the nation.
In a series of statements shared via his Twitter account, Obi revealed that he has been accused of “crossing the line” by Mr. Felix Morka, a spokesperson for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who warned him of possible consequences.
Obi expressed his dismay at the backlash his message has garnered, stating, “Have I really crossed the line? I ask the question because my New Year message has now led to threats against my life, my family, and those around me.”
The controversy stems from a video message shared by Obi on YouTube, where he spoke on Nigeria’s challenges, including the erosion of democratic freedoms and the rise of authoritarian practices. He has urged those who have not watched the message to view it for context, as he believes his intentions have been misinterpreted. The video can be accessed here.
While Obi has reaffirmed his commitment to decorum, he maintained that he will not be silenced in his advocacy for democratic values and truth. He added, “If I have truly crossed the line, I invite anyone to point it out. However, I will not be silenced in my resolve to speak truthfully, especially as our nation continues to drift toward undemocratic practices.”
