1 min readThe Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has announced the immediate suspension of special promotions within the Nigerian Police Force.
This decision was revealed during the decoration ceremony for newly promoted top officers held in Abuja on Friday.
IGP Egbetokun expressed his disapproval of officers lobbying for special promotions, emphasizing that any officer recommended by politicians or influential personalities will face disciplinary actions.
He stressed that future special promotions, if necessary, will be managed solely by the police management to ensure fairness and integrity within the Force.
In addition to the suspension of special promotions, Egbetokun also banned undue soliciting for postings. He warned that anyone found guilty of such actions would be dealt with according to the law of the Force.
During the ceremony, the police chief decorated 15 senior officers who were recently promoted to new ranks.
These include one Deputy Inspector-General of Police, 11 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, and 15 Commissioners of Police.
Egbetokun urged the newly promoted officers to live up to expectations and serve as exemplary figures for their junior colleagues.
