Ice Prince Reveals Why Choc Boiz Broke Up

2 min read

Nigerian rapper, Ice Prince, has opened up about the reasons behind the dissolution of Choc Boiz, the rap group that he was part of.

Choc Boiz was a group of recording artistes from Chocolate City, the record label that was founded by M.I Abaga, who was also a member of the group.

The group also included Jesse Jagz, Ice Prince, and Brymo, who were all signed to Chocolate City at some point.

The group was known for their rap skills, lyrical prowess, and hit songs, such as “Nobody Test Me”, “Oleku”, and “Action Film”.

However, the group disbanded in 2015, after Jesse Jagz and Brymo left the label due to contractual disputes.

In a recent podcast interview with Echooroom, Ice Prince attributed the break-up to “growth”.

He said they felt the need to independently own their platforms, where they would be able to groom young artistes in the industry.

He said, “What happened to Choc Boiz? I would say it is growth.”

“Then I do not know if it was a miscalculation or whatever but one thing that we did back then was we go got to a point where we thought that people like M, people like Jesse, people like Ice, should start up their own companies so we can allow younger artistes come in the game.”

He added, “If you remember, there was a time when Chocolate City started looking for young artistes, you know, young artistes like Koker, Ckay, Blaqbonez, had to come in. Now those artistes cannot be sharing a budget with you know that is what it was.”

Ice Prince also revealed that he is still on good terms with his former group mates, and that they still collaborate on music projects from time to time.

He said, “We are still brothers, we still talk, we still make music together. It is not like we are enemies or anything. We just grew apart musically and business-wise.”
