Historic Coronation In Ibadan As Rashidi Ladoja Becomes 44th Olubadan

Ibadan, Oyo State, was agog on Friday as Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja was formally crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland with the presentation of the staff and instruments of office at Mapo Hall.

Governor Seyi Makinde, exercising powers under the Oyo State Chiefs Law, officially presented the staff of office to Oba Ladoja in the presence of President Bola Tinubu and other dignitaries. The governor declared that the coronation marks the end of past disputes surrounding the Olubadan institution and reaffirmed that the traditional succession system is now sacrosanct.

President Tinubu congratulated the new monarch and recalled his long relationship with him. He praised Oba Ladoja’s perseverance and prayed for a successful and peaceful reign.

Oba Ladoja, who turned 81 on the eve of his coronation, pledged to devote his reign to service and development. He called on President Tinubu to approve the creation of Ibadan State before the end of his administration. He also promised to pursue urban renewal projects in neglected parts of the city.

The historic event drew dignitaries from across Nigeria. Among those in attendance were the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, and former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke.

Political allies and lawmakers were also present, including Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun, Senator Yunus Akintunde, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, and Olamijuwonlo Alao Akala of the House of Representatives, alongside several other federal and state legislators.
