First Bank Customers Frustrated As Digital Banking Platforms Suffer Major Downtime

Customers of First Bank have been left stranded following a major disruption affecting several of the bank’s digital banking platforms.

The bank confirmed on Monday that transactions to other banks via FirstMobile, FirstOnline, and USSD channels are currently experiencing downtime. The glitch has resulted in delayed or declined transactions, leaving many customers unable to carry out urgent transfers.

Although First Bank expressed regret over the inconvenience, the outage has sparked frustration among users who rely heavily on digital channels for daily transactions. Many customers have taken to social media to vent their displeasure, with some warning that persistent disruptions could erode confidence in the bank’s services.

The lender said its technical team is working with partners to restore normalcy “as quickly as possible,” but no definite timeline has been given. In the interim, customers have been advised to resort to alternative platforms such as FirstMonie Wallet and Debit Cards.

This latest disruption adds to the growing concerns over the reliability of digital banking systems in Nigeria, especially at a time when cashless transactions are on the rise.
